Beard transplantation is a procedure that involves the transplantation of hair taken from a part of the body to the jawline and beard area with different techniques. It is a well-known fact that it is difficult to grow a beard in men. Not shaving for a while or leaving it to its nature is often not a solution. Especially when a man has stubble, he may get a bad appearance due to disorder beard growth. In addition to these, genetics is one of the main factors that prevent beard growth.

Beard Transplantation: Procedure

2 different methods are generally performed in beard transplantation. The first method is follicular unit extraction (FUE). It is applied by harvesting complete follicular units one at a time from the donor site. FUE is less painful, this is why it’s the more commonly preferred procedure. The other one is follicular unit transplantation (FUT). For this approach, a surgeon cuts a small slice of tissue from the back of the head and removes the hair follicles from that tissue. In both methods, the first thing is to shave the donor area on the candidate’s head. This allows the specialist to see the hair follicles more clearly. Local anesthesia is given before the follicle extraction step begins. Thus, nothing is felt during the follicle extraction and subsequent implantation process. After the follicle collection process is completed, local anesthesia is applied to the area where the implants will be placed, this time on the face of the candidate. Then, each follicle is placed in the area to be transplanted and the candidate’s new beard emerges as planned before the surgery.

Beard Transplantation: Candidates

Since the donor site is usually the back of the candidate’s head, it is important to have healthy hair follicles in this area. It’s also often the last area of the head to see baldness. Therefore, even if there is some thinning in the upper part, there is probably a healthy area at the back of the head. The specialist examines the candidate’s head and determines whether there are follicles required for the transplant.
