Breast Lift

What is a Breast Lift?

Breast Lift, also known as Mastopexy, is a surgical operation that involves lifting the breasts to have tighter and rounder contours. The ring around the nipple is reduced and the excess skin around the breast is removed at the same time.In women, breasts lose their firmness and flexibility with aging. Conditions such as pregnancy, weight gain, or loss also negatively affect the breast structure. It is a situation that some women care about very much. They even use breast lift tape (Boob tape) to get a better image.

Am I a Good Candidate for Breast Lift?

Anyone who has saggy breasts and is bothered by the situation counts as a good candidate. It is not possible to get rid of sagging with diet and exercise.

The procedure of Breast Lift

Breast Lift can be applied with several different methods. The choice of the method to use depends on the size of the breasts and how much lifting is required. Before the operation, blood thinners such as aspirin should not be taken. It is recommended for smokers to stop smoking about 1 month ago, as it affects the healing process. It is especially important for the rapid healing of wounds in the treatment area.As the first step in the surgical procedure, the doctor determines the new position of the breasts by making markings on the candidate. The operation is performed under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes an incision around the nipple ring (Areola). The incision extends downward from the front of the breast. The breasts are lifted and reshaped. The nipple is properly placed in its new position. Excess skin can be removed from the area to make the breasts look tighter. Finally, the treated area is closed by suturing or bandaging. Mastopexy can also be applied together with Breast Augmentation. Implants increase the volume of the breasts. However, some doctors don’t prefer to perform these two operations at the same time. Firstly, Breast Lift is performed and Breast Augmentation follows then.

Recovery and Aftercare of Breast Lift

The breasts may remain swollen for several weeks following the Breast Lift surgery. Painkillers are used in case of pain. During the first 2-3 weeks, it is necessary to use a non-wired bra and keep the chest area elevated while lying down. Bleeding, bruising, or local pain is usually not seen after this period. It is necessary not to lift heavy weights for about 1 month and to avoid exercise that forces the surgery area.
