Rhinoplasty

What is Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty surgery is basically about gaining a new image by changing the structure of the nasal bone and cartilage.It’s a quite common cosmetic operation and also known as “Nose Jobs”.   Generally, these people prefer Rhinoplasty surgery;
  • Have complaints from the respiratory tract,
  • With a damaged nose after an accident,
  • Dissatisfied with the appearance of the nose they have from birth. Most changes are made to the size of the nose, the angle of the nose, and the distance between the holes (nostrils) with this operation.

Procedures of Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on how difficult the surgery is and what the surgeon recommends. The surgery may be applied both inside directly the nose and with a mini cut among the nostrils. The bone and the cartilage are rearranged under the skin. The shape of nasal bones or cartilage can be changed by the doctor then. It’s related to how much needs to be removed or added. The doctor may use the cartilage for small changes if needed. It can also be used from the rib of the patient, or bone from other areas of the body for major changes. The nose’s skin and tissue are placed back then and the incisions are closed. The doctor can also correct the septum to evolve respiration if it is folded.

Preparation for Rhinoplasty

Before the surgery, the patient and the doctor should be talked about key elements. It helps to define whether the surgery is suitable for the patient or not. The patient’s history should be known by the doctor. It’s important to get information about the history of surgeries past and medications that the patient is taking. The examinations such as blood tests are done. The inside and outside of the nose are also examined by the doctor. This helps the doctor define what changes need to be made and how the patient’s physical characteristics, such as the thickness of the skin or the capacity of the cartilage, may affect the results. It’s also important for determining the effect of Rhinoplasty on the respiration of the patient. The photos of the nose are taken. It’s possible to see in this way what the results may be like. The doctor may use the photos for before-and-after forecasts, as a reference during any surgery, and for reviews later. The patient can be sure about the surgery and whether it’s ok or not for himself/herself with the photos. Maybe the most important part is this.
